I didn't spend much time here, just a quick pop-in as I was dropped off at Austino's doorstep early one morning before most of Cannery Row was open, so I cannot really speak to the service. The ambiance was just a general cafe, and really felt like a generic mom-and-pop donut shop. What caught my eye (besides that it was open) was that they had freshly-made cannoli. I have only had cannoli one other time, and it was incredible, so my curiosity was piqued. It looked like they had a variety of baked goods, but I didn't look to closely since the cannoli was my focus, and then I have a weak spot for macarons, and they had some really nice-looking ones right by the cannoli. I went on my way with one cannoli, one strawberry, one blueberry, and one pistachio macaron. None of it disappointed. It was not too sweet, but just sweet enough. If I had a place to put them, I would have gone back to get more to save for later. In any event, I will be back the next time I am on Cannery Row.

when i was a child, stayed home from school one day and watched TV. i watched an episode of curious george and it was about when george had his first canoli and was like obsessed with it. that episode stuck with me for literally decades lol and i never had a canoli. every time when i see or hear canoli lol i think of that curious george episode and his love for canolis. well i had my first ever canoli! it was not was i thought but it was pretty good! i dont think i could eat two though! the filling was semi sweet cream and the cherries were complimented well. the pastry itself was like a crunchy and crumbly waffle texture. im so glad i had my first ever canoli lol made my childhood dreams come true. the service was prompt and nice. the ambiance is like a small down town airy family owned business type of vibe. which i think fits the town. i took off a star because idk how i feel about the food being displayed and just sitting there at the window. like those sandwich's can totally be made fresh right before your eyes instead it's just sitting there which i don't like i wanted pizza and was going to order some but it was just being displayed in the glass all cold and crusty lol i know they probably warm it up but the appeal loses my appetite. i just saw canoli on the sign and was like gimme a canoli lol it was like in the early afternoon with 1 other customer. i won't eat here again but it was nice to experience a canoli just like curious george

Austino's is a solid stop for breakfast/lunch in the Monterey Bay Aquarium area. I stopped by on a Monday afternoon, after spending my morning at the aquarium, coming here after recommendations from friendly aquarium staff. They have a decent menu with breakfast and lunch favorites such as pancakes, belgian waffles, quiche, as well as deli sandwiches and their famous clam chowder. I opted for their Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl - service was prompt and attentive. The serving of clam chowder was great - the clerk asked if I wanted it in my bread bowl or separately, since I was taking it back to my hotel to eat. It's a thoughtful question - I like my bread soft, not crisp - so opted to have it served in the bread bowl. There is a display case with macaroons and other sweets, as well as another display case with quiche. Limited seating inside and outside of cafe. Minus one star since my bread didn't get the garlic butter option that a few of these other reviews mention. Wasn't an option, nor was it offered to me. It sounds tasty tho - I'm a fan of garlic butter, and it would've made this meal even richer.
